Left Malakwa and now in Victoria, BC

October 9, 2011

The last three weeks or so have sped by and except for all the rain in Malakwa we've had a great time.  We were able to spend lots of quality time with our grandkids, Matthew and Amy.  Picked Matthew up after school one day and the three of us enjoyed ice cream at D'Dutchman Dairy, geocaching, hiking to 2 Mile Falls and dinner at A&W.  He stayed home from school on his 6th birthday, the day before we left Malakwa, and we partied with he & Amy all day.

The drive to Victoria was quite sunny and uneventful.  Although we were at the ferry by 4:15 we were unable to get on the 5:00 pm ferry, missed by three vehicles!  Oh well, quite pleasant sitting at our table reading while waiting another hour.  Arrived at Oceanside RV Resort just before 8:00 pm and set up at site #14 which turned out to be on a corner and we barely fit.  Registered with management the next morning and they moved us into a fully serviced tent site which is twice the size, has no bright lights and grassy lowlands between us and the ocean.  There is also room for our Victoria grandkids, Noa (about to turn 5) and Sawyer (2 1/2) to play in the site.  The playground is just across from us as well.  Never seen a fully serviced, including sewer, tent site.

Saturday, October 8th, we went to Noa's big birthday party at Goldstream Park.  Nine kids and their parents enjoyed hotdogs over the fire, marshmallows, etc.  At one point Asian tourists joined right in and a lady sat in a chair and cooked a hot dog so she could have her photo taken in front of the fire!  Her husband was carrying a huge rock around in his hand - not sure what that was about.   The spiderman pinata was destroyed and a free for all ensued!  A beautiful day in the forest with leaves changing color and gently falling around us.  Noa was happily exhausted at the end of the day.

Congratulations to Colleen Corner on becoming a granny early this am.  Glad your daughter and her husband live here in Sidney so we can get together and celebrate your new granddaughter.

Cheers from 1 of the retired duo
Colleen
